Summary: JELD-WEN is seeking a Sr. Quality Engineer to work in our Vista, CA office supporting our Composite Product Group Based in our Vista Plant. The Sr. Quality Engineer position is expected to live by the JELD-WEN Values and lead by the JELD-WEN Leadership Model, to build businesses ethically and safely, to invest in people, to inspire customers through innovations, to deliver on our promises and to improve every day. This position, will oversee, develop, implement, and manage the quality control systems throughout new product introductions and the production process to drive end to end product quality.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Develop, implement the quality systems needed for the Composite program
  • Drive quality requirements and standards for the development and manufacturing of their respective JELD-WEN product throughout the production cycle, from materials acquisition to the finished product in accordance with product specifications and KPI’s
  • Work with plant staffers, R&D, Engineering, other cross-functional teams and suppliers relating to quality and reliability
  • Works with engineering and composite team to generate end to end (incoming, in-process and final) inspection, testing plans, methods and equipment to assure product conformance
  • Participate and lead the development and updating of the composite program (internal and suppliers) required core tools (FEMAs, MSA, SPC, Control Plans and PPAP)
  • Review supplier provided First Articles (FAIRs) and PPAP reviews to ensure that suppliers are meeting product requirements
  • Conduct first article inspections and inspections as needed
  • Interface with suppliers when issues found in supplier provided FAIR, PPAPS to support quality issues
  • Review supplier provided deviations and change requests and route to appropriate team members
  • Conduct or assist in auditing suppliers, internal QMS or layered audits
  • Manage sites supplier corrective action process using JELD-WENS problem notification and corrective action system (PHRED) and work with purchasing or the Dir of Supplier Quality as needed to address supplier quality/delivery performance issues
  • Responsible for driving corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) for reported customer complaints, non-conformance issues and/or warranty claims and ensuring their effectiveness  
  • Review nonconformances, pFMEAs, complaints and warranty claims etc to develop and continuously update Control Plans to determine where quality control emphasis should be placed and that the appropriate sampling is being done to eliminate problems
  • Use SPC and MSA tools to understand process capability and integrity of tools used to determine the conformance of product
  • Collect and compile data to generate quality metrics and reports to identify areas for improvement
  • Traveling is approximately >10%
  • May perform other or specified duties as needed


  • Working knowledge of quality assurance principles and how to apply them
  • Knowledge and experience with developing and implementing quality management systems that result in producing quality products
  • Experience conducting quality system (to approved quality standards such as ISO9001:2015) process and layered audits, and knowledge of quality control systems and standards (ANZI, AAMA etc.)
  • Demonstrate ability to lead, develop, train and review AIAG key Core Tools such as: FEMAs, MSA, SPC, Control Plans and PPAP
  • Experience inspecting and conducting first articles
  • Strong working problem solving process knowledge with experience formats such as CAPA, SCAR & A3’s and the ability to mitigate and prevent QC issues
  • Demonstrate ability to apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend, implement, and drive quality strategies and programs that address plant and corporate objectives, JELD-WEN’s Values and Mission Statement
  • Experience using modern Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, LEAN, TPS, SQDCI, OTD/JIT, etc
  • Experience auditing internal & external processes
  • Experience conducting inspection
  • Proficient with statistical software such as Minitab, SPC Pro etc.
  • Experience developing and training personnel at all levels

Education / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required with up to 5 years of quality control experience.  Manufacturing environment is desired. 


- Preferred Qualifications:

  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE/ASQ)
  • ISO auditor certification or training 
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean Enterprise certification
