Sr Automation & Controls Technician

 

The Sr. Automation & Controls Technician will join a team of professionals maintaining and deploying factory automation systems involving robotics, servo actuators, advanced sensors, PLCs, and PC-based controls.  Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Sr. Automation & Controls Technician will perform maintenance and debugging functions of system elements to keep our automated assembly and fabrication lines running at peak productivity.   The Sr. Automation & Controls Technician will assist in the buyoff, installation, validation, ramp-up and overall deployment of automated systems. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follows prescribed safety policies and regulations;
  • Maintains complex automated manufacturing control systems comprised of robotics, PLCs, hydraulic and pneumatic actuators, servo motors and drives, VFDs and AC motors, and advanced sensors;
  • Provides troubleshooting expertise for control systems, including root cause analysis;
  • Replaces defective hardware, such as VFDs and servo drives, and reloads any operating software as required;
  • Maintains work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition;
  • Completes preventative maintenance activities in a timely and proactive manner;
  • Assists in design reviews for new automated systems, and participates in factory acceptance testing and runoff, installation, site acceptance testing and ramp-up to production;
  • Supports lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programs;

Education and Experience

  • 2-year associates degree in control systems or control technology or 5-years experience maintaining advanced systems in an industrial setting;
  • Experience programming and debugging PC-based control systems.
  • Experience working with 480V 3-Phase power and panels built to UL508
  • Experience replacing and reprogramming servo motor, servo drives and variable frequency drives.
  • Experience in commissioning and debugging automated systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both internally and externally.
