Summary: The Value Stream Manager creates and fulfills the monthly and quarterly production schedules that achieve Planned Revenue, Labor Contribution Margins, On-Time Delivery, and Quality in accordance with corporate Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager. This position gives proper direction to all production personnel ensuring implementation of lean manufacturing principles in order to maximize production with an unconditional commitment to employee engagement, safety, and eliminating waste.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating in and maintaining safety awareness programs, as well as communicating, correcting, and participating in the investigation of any safety related issues/concerns.

  • Responsible for guaranteeing product conformance to the specified standards of VPI’s Quality Management System by providing leadership needed to ensure that product quality meets product specifications and criteria for all products shipped from the plant.

  • Meets all customer commitments through the production of timely, efficient and high-quality products and service.

  • Manages and coordinates the scheduling and time of production to meet customer needs.

  • Actively involved in the coaching and professional growth of team members by proactively and regularly coordinating, developing, and managing team member’s performance and capabilities, based upon corporate KPI’s.

  • Fosters a learning and growth environment.

  • Utilizes performance management tools to accomplish team results/expectations by communicating job goals and expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Oversees all staff scheduling to include time-off requests and overtime.

  • Assist Plant Manager with implementation/monitoring of continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintains established dashboards to ensure they are up-to-date and useful.

  • Maintains a high standard of professional knowledge, ethics and practices when dealing with customers, suppliers, peers, subordinates, and others in the company.

  • Works with all functional departments to actively pursue manufacturing excellence programs along with fostering a “one Plant” partnership with peers to achieve aligned goals.

  • Develops and implements with Plant Manager an annual operating plan including capital plan, productivity projects, production department budget, eliminating non-value, and defining Six Sigma & Kaizen profit improvement programs across the plant.

  • Behaves continuously and consistently with desired VPI/JELD-WEN values and behaviors.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Associates Degree in a related field and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the window and door industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ management experience is required.

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and techniques is preferred.

  • Exceptional interpersonal abilities relating to cultural diversities, with the ability to remain tactful, mature and flexible.

  • Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive manufacturing process improvement techniques throughout the production process in a skillful and deliberate manner. 

  • Must be an effective team builder with the ability to manage/motivate/empower others, and resolve conflict, and possess a fundamental understanding of management concepts and principals. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills up and down the organizational ladder to include front-line team members, and plant management personnel.

  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities on daily basis.

  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office and other position applicable software applications.

  • Good understanding of HR and Financial acumen is highly desired.
