The Electrical Designer is responsible for assisting in the design and development of new equipment and systems as well as the integration into existing processes. Mastery in the use of computer aided design tools to create and update product design drawings and supporting documentation is required. This includes coordination of specific aspects of a development project as directed by the Operations Engineer.
 

Facility Description:  The Towanda, PA, facility is a fully integrated, dry-process, fiberboard manufacturing plant employing 450 people in the production of molded interior door facing panels and exterior trim board products.  The facility operations include a Woodyard; two (2) Wood Fiber Refining and Dryer areas; three (3) Forming/ Press Lines; two (2) Tempering Operations for door facing products; various Sawing and Sanding Units; four (4) Surface Coating Operations; and a Primer Coatings manufacturing area.  Two (2) Boilers (1 operating and 1 stand-by) firing wood and natural gas provide up to 150,000 Lbs. per hour of steam for the facility. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Update and maintain plant electrical and process control drawings.
  • Manage all projects assigned under the direction of the Operations Engineering Manager.
  • Work in a team environment to create electrical assembly documentation for the projects they are assigned.
  • Participate in the Idea Screening Process.
  • Communicate with suppliers as required.
  • Review drawing and equipment change requests for accuracy.
  • Assemble, organize, publish, and facilitate distribution of complete Specification Sets and Technical Manuals for all projects/products he/she is responsible for.

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Limited travel to JELD-WEN facilities as needed to support projects or activities.

Education and Experience (desired):

  • Associates of Science degree (preferably in Electrical Design) or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of experience in industrial electrical design.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience in the design of industrial control systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and power distribution systems

Technical Skills:

  • Correct and effective use of corporate approved CAD software. Ability to read technical drawings and prints.
  • Ability to present designs to management using applicable computer software including MS Word and Excel is required.
  • Ability to travel (up to 10%) in support of projects, manufacturing facilities, and suppliers.
  • Fundamental engineering design methods for the creation of electrical systems and assemblies.
  • Results oriented. Must have a proven track record of delivering positive results.
  • Detail orientated. Detailed work attitude.
  • Strong listening skills.  Must be able to take and understand verbal direction.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Lean Product Development concepts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Must be comfortable speaking in front of groups.
  • Good project management skills.  Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet objectives and milestones with a proven track record of keeping projects on-time.
  • Self-Starter. Must be capable of working with little direction and the ability to make decisions appropriate with level of authority.
  • Standardization. Must be able to create design drawings in accordance with applicable drawing standards and electrical design (NEC, NFPA  & IEEE) standards and codes.
