THE ROLE
The JELD-WEN Summer Internship Program empowers talented undergraduate students to gain real-world working experience and professional development in one of our business areas. This position is focused on the Information Technology Security Operations Center. The internship program includes meaningful projects and challenging work assignments geared at developing professional competencies and skills in a chosen discipline. Additionally, throughout the summer internship, participants will have the opportunity for professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities to help enhance future leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Access Management & Compliance
- Assist with Cybersecurity assessments, SOX/ITGC compliance efforts, internal and external audit responses, user access reviews and privilege audits.
- Help maintain documentation for compliance requirements.
- Support identity and access management (IAM) processes.
- Participate in security configuration reviews.
- Help ensure adherence to security policies and standards.
Security Monitoring & Analysis
- Assist in monitoring Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems.
- Review security alerts and logs to identify potential threats or anomalies.
- Help document and escalate security incidents and suspicious activities.
- Support the security operations team with daily monitoring tasks.
- Participate in threat intelligence gathering and analysis.
Incident Response Support
- Assist in responding to security incidents under supervision.
- Help document incident details, timelines, lessons learned and actions taken.
- Support security analysis and investigation activities.
- Participate in incident response exercises, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plan development and tabletop simulations.
- Learn and apply incident response procedures.
IT Compliance
- Assist with supporting compliancy efforts and reporting.
- Help document compliance processes and audit findings.
- Follow up on Audit findings and support the control owners in progress.
- Learn about IT Compliance activities and procedures.
Vulnerability Management
- Assist and collaborate with vulnerability scanning and assessment activities in IT and OT environments.
- Analyze scan results and help prioritize remediation efforts.
- Document vulnerabilities and track remediation progress.
- Support patch management processes.
- Research emerging vulnerabilities and security threats.
- Support development of KPI based progress reports for security operations activities
Security Projects & Initiatives
- Participate in security awareness and training initiatives.
- Assist with documentation of security policies and procedures.
- Support security audit and compliance activities.
- Help evaluate, automate, and test security tools and technologies.
- Contribute to security improvement projects.
Research & Documentation
- Research cybersecurity best practices and industry standards.
- Assist in creating and updating security documentation.
- Prepare reports and presentations on security topics.
- Stay informed on current cyber threats and attack techniques.
- Document security tools, processes, and procedures.
Short Description
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled rising junior or senior students majoring in: Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related major
- Demonstrated work ethics and detail-orientation and well-organized work structure.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive and eager to learn w/ strong analytical, critical thinking and time management skills
- Ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment and work to a high caliber while demonstrating attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
- Experience with programming/scripting languages such as Python, and PowerShell
- Good understanding of Security and Authentication concepts (OAuth, API keys), JSON, REST API
- Familiarity with common security and compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, SOC 2).
- strong interest in security automation and improving operational efficiency.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and work in a collaborative team environment.
- Relevant completed coursework
STRONGLY PREFFERED
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Relevant internship or previous work experience
- Leadership experience and relationship-building skills
