American Building Supply (ABS), a subsidiary of Jeld Wen, and one of the Nation’s largest wholesale suppliers of Doors, Door Hardware, Windows, and Millwork, currently has positions available for Sr. Material Handler to assist our Distribution division in providing value-added goods and services to our customers.

Depending on assignment, our team members may do any of the following duties: 

 

  • Read list identify material and construction of doors
  • Knowledge of material location
  • Operating propane and electric forklift vehicles
  • Perform start of shift preventative maintenance inspection
  • Material preparation
  • Forklift Certification a plus
  • Report to lead when materials are running low

Summary / Objective

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor/Manager the Senior Material Handler is responsible of moving materials such as stiles, doors, rails core, skin, pallets etc. to keep the lines running.  Ensure their customer they are supplying does not run out of materials and the line feeder does not have to go searching for materials.

Essential functions

  • Operate forklift in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Able to accurately follow the production schedule to ensure the proper materials are used, keep pace with the production lines, and leave the next shift set up and ready to operate. 
  • Ensure their customer they are supplying does not run out or materials and the line feeder does not have to go searching for materials.  
  • Keep the material Route all required solid core per the production schedule, focusing on safety and quality always.
  • Place units of doors in the correct bays, to keep the tail offline clean, to stock pallets and cardboards in the staging area by the trim saw.
  • Empty the dumpsters and to remove the reject doors. 
  • Support the loading/unloading materials or doors if necessary.
  • Conforms with safety regulations per plant policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
  • Reports unsafe conditions immediately to appropriate supervision
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Competencies

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on professional business demeanor, communication and customer service.
  • Good math, written skills and able to read tape measure

 

 

Supervisory responsibilities: NA

Work environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and machines, vibrations and loud noises.

All safety protocols including OSHA guidelines as mentioned above are mandatory.

 Required education and experience

Qualifications:

 

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required;
  • Forklift certification through a class and test will be required if you are not currently Jeld-Wen forklift certified.  
  • Previous forklift driver experience (plus)

Expected pay for this role is between $22.65 to $25.04  per hour and is based on experience and qualifications.
