THE ROLE 

 

Under direct supervision, the Facility Support I, Entry Level position(s) performs janitorial duties in offices, warehouses, manufacturing areas, building interiors, and building exteriors, at all JELD-WEN plants and facilities. The Facility Support I Entry Level position will also assist in shipping and receiving activities, and assist some Lead personnel in their production efforts at JELD-WEN plants and facilities.  

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

•    Uses appropriate cleaning equipment, performs janitorial duties and routine maintenance on all facility interiors and exteriors.
•    Will manage recycling activities.
•    Is involved in Facility beautification in terms of exterior aesthetics (i.e. shrubs, greenery, plantings, etc.). 
•    Assists in the disposal of hazardous waste
•    Works in a safe manner using appropriate safety equipment while performing Facility Support duties
•    Maintains the work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations per plant and facility policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of safety glasses, ear plugs, masks, steel toed boots/shoes,  and associated safety equipment when using cleaning products and in order to be on the plant floor, and perform the job duties in a safe and efficient/effective manner
•    Reports unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision
•    Performs other duties as assigned by management.  

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

•    Requires the ability to speak, read, and comprehend basic instructions
•    Requires basic computer skills
•    Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance with regard to Facility Support duties but at times work under minimal supervision while paying attention to detail
•    Must be able to promptly respond to staff concerns related to facilities and conditions under the auspices of the position
•    Must be able to occasionally and/or frequently lift and/or move file cabinets, desks, tables, chairs and other heavy office equipment inside the facilities, and stock, materials and unfinished and finished production oriented materials in the shipping and receiving areas, and near manufacturing work areas that weigh between 10 and on occasion in excess of 100 pounds
•    Must be able to assist shipping and receiving personnel; operate machinery, empty trash and replace liners, sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, wax and polish floors using conventional and industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines, etc.
•    Must use ladders, dust, wash walls, clean ceiling, polish light fixtures, and wash and replace blinds
•    Must remove stains from such surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions
•    Must also, where facility applicable, sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks
•    Must recognize unsafe conditions and take appropriate action on same to ensure the safety of themselves and others in the building and facility
•    Must have the ability and motivation to learn
•    The ability to work in an office, manufacturing environment, and outside in inclement weather
•    Disposing of waste
•    Sanitation
•    Removing debris such as saw dust, wood or steel assembly pieces, etc.
•    Operating Hilo or pallet jacks to remove waste containers, trash bins, etc.

•    Be very energetic and enthusiastic
•    Have reliable transportation and be dependable
•    Have a responsible attitude and excellent communication skills
•    Be a team player
•    Be results driven
•    Must be able to work overtime as needed.   


Education and Experience 

•    High School Diploma or GED
•    Previous janitorial duties, landscaping, experience desired but not mandatory
