JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to join our growing team.
SENIOR R&D ENGINEER
OVERVIEW:
Design and develop products, processes, and equipment to support the production of quality products in a safe environment.
PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively support and participate in the company’s safety and health and quality programs.
- New Product Development (NPD)/Continuous Improvement (CI)
- Design and develop new products, processes, and/or equipment
- Manage project or project components to completion within a specified timeline
- Provide accurate time and cost estimates based on project scope and requirements
- Create models, drawings, charts, graphs, or other tools to clearly communicate specification to other functional groups
- Work with outside vendors to develop parts and/or equipment on time and within budget
- Develops and carries out test plans and experiments to validate product/process design and performance.
- Create and publish report outs and project summaries, ECNs, TSDs, TSBs, etc.
- Engineering Production Support
- Educate and develop the Production Department regarding new products and processes.
- Answer questions regarding product quality, performance or specification as required.
- Field testing and troubleshooting support as necessary
SCHEDULING:
- This position is regularly scheduled to work 5 days per week / 9 hours per day (7:00am – 4:30pm). Overtime is required.
- Travel as required
- 5-10% of travel per month is typical
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Skills:
- Knowledge and application of basic problem-solving skills and engineering skills (math, science, etc.).
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of VPI’s Quality Management System (QMS).
- Must possess the ability to learn quickly, be self-motivated and work well independently.
- Must show excellent time management skills, and be able to prioritize activities base on business need
- Must be innovative and creative with high 3D mechanical spatial visualization skills.
- Ability to use hand tools and cutting tools as well as larger equipment such as an automatic saw and vinyl welder (can be trained).
- Demonstrated ability to provide sound design judgment and technical knowledge in a professional manner.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
- Must enjoy working with your hands.
- Must show strong attention to detail.
Experience:
- BS Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related) with 5-10 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience using 3-D modeling software (Solid Works or Autodesk Inventor experience is required)

Expected pay for this role is between $72,000.00 to $120,000.00 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.
