JOB PURPOSE:

The Regional Environmental Manager will assist multiple JELD-WEN manufacturing sites and with implementing the EH&S Management system, developing and implementing effective environmental programs, and ensuring compliance with company global policies and standards and regulatory requirements. The Regional Environmental manager is responsible for helping to build consistency throughout the company by providing functional/technical expertise to multiple site environmental personnel and assisting operational leaders with building a stronger environmental culture. The Regional Environmental Manager will conduct regulatory research, environmental application development, calculating emission inventories,  agency negotiations, managing environmental data, preparing environmental reports & submittals, tracking permit and reporting due dates, providing regulatory guidance, providing tools to assist in maintaining compliance, conducting periodic compliance reviews of facilities and draft permit reviews.  This position will provide guidance on facility design, pollution control selection, expansion opportunities, and regulatory changes.

The successful candidate must have experience with EH&S management system implementation, leading incident investigations, conducting hazard & risk assessments, training with hourly and management personnel, conducting environmental audits and driving cultural change. Experience developing and implementing forward thinking processes that have enhanced the EH&S culture, reduced injuries and demonstrated improved performance are essential.

Experience with MS Suite of products, e.g., Excel, Access, Minitab, PowerPoint & Visio required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Routinely visit assigned facilities to provide environmental compliance assistance and coaching and assess compliance with applicable environmental regulations and company policies. Identifying environmental risks in the workplace and assisting sites with developing and implementing prevention programs
  • Advising operations leaders and employees on how to minimize environmental risks in the workplace and improve compliance
  • Assisting sites in complying with applicable environmental requirements
  • Training site employees on environmental requirements and the EH&S management system
  • Assisting sites with implementing JELD-WEN EH&S programs, policies & standards, the  EH&S management system and sustainability initiatives
  • Training operations leaders and line managers to recognize hazards and risks and leading the line organization in identifying and controlling hazards and risks
  • Conducting health & safety inspections in the workplace
  • Participate in the Global EH&S audits as required
  • Offering general health & safety advice to business and site leaders and employees
  • Ensuring injuries, illnesses and near misses are reported to the global Environmental, health & safety department and business leaders
  • Assisting sites with incident investigations and regulatory inspections
  • Communicating environmental performance with site leadership
  • Assisting sites with maintaining accurate environmental records applicable for the site, e.g., training documentation, equipment inspection records, etc.
  • Assisting sites with implementing environmental inspection and audit findings and tracking findings to closure
  • Sharing Environmental lessons learned
  • Partnering closely with all site leaders to create, maintain and improve an environmental compliance culture
  • Provide environmental updates to the NA Director EH&S and NA Business Unit Leadership
  • Assist sites and regions with preparing and responding to regulatory inquiries/notices of violations by federal, state, provincial and governmental Environmental authorities
  • Prepare and present accurate technical analysis of government regulations
  • Communicate environmental actions to internal and external contacts
  • Manage multi-media environmental compliance programs and permitting actions. Act as an interface between environmental regulatory agencies and JELD-WEN
  • Perform inspections and evaluations of facilities, processes and equipment
  • Identify potential non-compliant environmental conditions along with corresponding solution options to address the potential non-compliance
  • Manage and participate in the timely meeting of internal and external reporting and permitting deadlines
  • Manage and participate on cross-functional team projects
  • Meet internal and external project and regulatory deadlines
  • Develop and deliver effective training to site environmental coordinators and other internal staff

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS Engineering, Environmental Sciences or similar
  • Professional Engineer (PE), FE, PE, QEP, preferred
  • 7-10 years of Environmental experience preferably in a global manufacturing organization with multi-site responsibilities
  • Experience implementing Environmental Management Systems, e.g., ISO 14001
  • Significant knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations required
  • Experience using web-based systems to support EH&S, e.g., Gen-Suite, or similar
  • Strong communication, presentation, training and facilitation, project management skills are essential
  • Proficiency in LEAN and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Process safety management or risk management plan (RMP) experience desired
  • Exemplary customer service skills and attention to detail
  • Advanced skills using the Microsoft suite, including Excel, PowerPoint and Access databases
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze Environmental data
  • Up to 50% overnight travel required.
