Product Packaging Engineer

JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Product Packaging Engineer to join our growing team.

 

THE ROLE

The primary focus of Product Packaging Engineer will be managing projects which analyze and improve existing packaging systems, as well as designing and integrating new packaging systems for our manufacturing facilities. Reporting to the Director of R&D, this individual will work closely with Senior Product Engineers, Product Line Manager and Plant Management Teams to develop unique packaging solutions.
 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • This is a mid/high level position and requires some training and supervision by the Director of R&D and Product Engineering Managers.
  • Apply packaging engineering background to develop unique solutions to meet product needs.
  • Lead brainstorming groups.
  • Lead design reviews.
  • Work with the client (plant) to develop scope, resolve conflicts, and build the client (plant) relationship.
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact with the client (plant) for project related activities.
  • Prepare detailed engineering calculations and material cost estimates.
  • Establish project schedule and budget; monitor progress accordingly. 
  • Participate as a team member and at times lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Develop supplier relationships and establish open line of communication as required.
  • Direct and coordinate engineering design teams, as needed.
  • Serve as a technical expert for the team.
  • Manage project execution through the utilization of established tools and processes.
  • Promote, support, and monitor safety policies.
  • Document, negotiate, and execute changes in scope of project.
  • Anticipate risks and work with plant management, engineering, OEM’s, subcontractors, and project teams to provide corrective action.
  • Provide plant installation and start-up support.
  • Perform and conduct acceptance testing at vendor facilities.
  • Performs BOM (bill of material) check.
  • Check drawings/work done by other Designers and Product Engineers.
  • Update red lines if required.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency/responsibility on a daily basis with all projects.
  • Evaluates materials and makes recommendations.
  • Keep abreast of changes in the industry, materials, and process technologies.
  • Work with VP and GMs to ensure that the packaging is meeting their needs.
  • Analyze shipping/warranty data and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • 10-35% travel is anticipated.

 

Education and Experience

  • 8+ years of recent project management experience within an industrial/consumer goods manufacturing environment.
  • Education: BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent technical experience - Packaging Focus)
  • CAD and Drafting Skills, AutoCAD.
  • Microsoft office (Word, Excel).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires little supervision and training.
  • Proven ability to interface with outside suppliers.
  • Proven track record for on time and complete.

Expected pay for this role is between $76,800.00 to $127,900.00 per year and is based on experience and qualifications.​
