Summary: JELD-WEN is seeking a Process/Quality Engineer to work in our Oceanside, CA office supporting our LaCantina products in our Oceanside, CA Plant. The Quality Engineer position is expected to live by the JELD-WEN Values and lead by the JELD-WEN Leadership Model, to build businesses ethically and safely, to invest in people, to inspire customers through innovations, to deliver on our promises and to improve every day. This position, will oversee, develop, implement, and manage the quality control systems throughout new product introductions and the production process to drive end to end product quality.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following.

  • Maintain and extend the existing QMS, as needed
  • Responsible for generating, updating and posting quality metrics and SQDCI data.
  • Conduct various inspections to support Production and/or Quality containment activities.
  • Conduct calibration, tool and quality audits
  • Maintain quality logs, records and completes applicable documents.
  • Prepares various reports related to Quality.
  • Drive quality requirements for the manufacturing of the JELD-WEN products from materials acquisition to the finished products
  • Works with engineering to generate end to end (incoming, in-process, and final) inspection, testing plans, methods, and equipment to assure product conformance
  • Participate the updating of new programs (internal and suppliers) tools (FMEAs, MSA, SPC, Control Plans, and PPAP)
  • Review supplier provided First Articles inspection data and PPAP documents to ensure that suppliers are meeting product requirements
  • Conduct first article inspections and inspections as needed
  • Interface with suppliers when issues are found
  • Review supplier deviation and change requests with appropriate team members to determine approval or rejection of requests.
  • Manage sites supplier corrective action process using JELD-WEN’s problem notification and corrective action system (PHRED) and work with purchasing or the Dir of Supplier Quality as needed to address supplier quality/delivery performance issues
  • Responsible for driving corrective and preventative actions for reported customer complaints, non-conformance issues and/or warranty claims and ensuring their effectiveness  
  • Review nonconformances, complaints and warranty claims etc. to develop and update Control Plans.  Determine where quality control emphasis should be placed, and the appropriate sampling plan needed to contain the problems
  • Use SPC and MSA tools to understand process capability and integrity of tools used to determine the conformance of product and the process
  • Collect and compile data to generate quality metrics and reports to identify areas for improvement
  • Conduct or assist in auditing suppliers, internal QMS or layered audits
  • Travel as needed <10%
  • May perform other duties as needed

 

 

Experience:

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and in-line quality assurance principles
  • Demonstrate ability to apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend, implement, and drive quality strategies and programs that address plant and corporate objectives, JELD-WEN’s Values and Mission
  • Demonstrate ability to review/update quality tools such as: FMEAs, MSA, SPC, Control Plans and PPAP
  • Experience interpreting product drawings to conduct dimensional first article inspections
  • Strong working problem-solving process knowledge
  • Experience with statistical software such as Minitab, SPC Pro etc. is preferred

Education / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required. 2 years of quality control experience in a manufacturing environment desired

 

Preferred

    • Bachelor Engineering Degree
    • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
    • Six Sigma and/or Lean Enterprise certification
