JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Carpenter to join our growing team.

Position Title: Product Development Technician (Carpenter)

Department/Team: Product Development

Location: Onsite: Oceanside, CA

Shift: First Shift

Purpose of the Role:

This role is designed to be a technical hands-on resource for LaCantina’s current, custom and new innovative product offerings.  The role is actively involved in prototype fabrication along with ensuring product integrity of existing products. 

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Product Development Shop Supervisor, the Product Development Technician is responsible for all the support functions of the Product Development Department.   The role serves as one of the technical resources of LaCantina for manufacturing, service, and sales of current products along with assistance of design and testing of new and improved products.   This position is hands-on in the fabrication of products, both current and prototype, and requires a high attention to detail, organization and documentation.  In this role, the Product Development Technician will provide training to various departments including manufacturing of current and new products.

Primary duties and expectations of the role:

1. Build prototypes of new products and improvement concepts.
2. Read and interpret assembly drawings, blueprints and as build drawings.
3. Responsible for conducting testing of products in conjunction with Fenestration Lab.
4. Write various documentations including SOPs, Installation Instructions, ECN’s, DCN’s and Laboratory Reports. 
5. Fabricate Custom designed products, prototypes and necessary jigs associated. 
6. Establish Bill of Material list for assemblies and sub-assemblies.
7. Responsible for production and quality for all non-standard materials and products.
8. Perform root cause analysis and correct actions for identified concerns.
9. Perform First Article Inspections of parts, processes and jigs.
10. Train various departments of product/processes including Manufacturing lines.
11. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

These are the non‑negotiable skills, credentials, or experiences needed for success.

• • • • Education: AA degree in woodworking/construction trade or 5yrs. on the job training in related millwork field like window and door manufacturing. Equivalent combination of college and on the job training is acceptable. 
      • Technical Proficiency operating industry wood working equipment such as table saw, jointer, and shaper.
      • Technical Proficiency: Software knowledge Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
      • Strong mathematical skills
      • Ability to prepare parts and assembly drawings (hand drafting only)
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Reliability and punctuality
• Valid California Class C driver’s license for operation of company vehicle.

      • Meet physical job description/analysis of physical demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

These are beneficial but not required.

• Experience using precision measuring instruments
• Experience using CAD software
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• OSHA safety training

TRAVEL:

• 5%-10% travel is anticipated.

Expected pay for this role is between $30.64 to $33.88  per hour and is based on experience and qualifications.
