As Product Engineer you will carry out value engineering workshops to ensure product is made in the most cost-efficient way whilst ensuring third party certification, quality and performance is not compromised.

 

Safety, Quality and productivity will be at the heart of all you do and you will be part of a small team that will champion and new ways of working across the sites. You will regularly attend cross functional and cross site best practice sharing events and take every opportunity to look at how other sites to benchmark best practice.

 

You will be the custodian of all product technical data and, through robust controls and systems, ensure only the most recent data is used for operational purposes.

 

Elimination or simplification of non-added value tasks from our operations whilst striving to identify productivity and right-first-time improvement opportunities. You will hold historical archive data and make it easily retrievable when required.

 

You’ll be the key “go to” person when Process or Product Changes are being requested and work closely with the R+D team as needed.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safety management and improvement. Pro-active SIO approach
  • Targeted elimination or simplification of non-value-added activities
  • Help maintain exceptional physical and digital housekeeping and organisational controls
  • Pro-active approach to ‘Quality’ management
  • Identify new projects to deliver continuous improvement, lean culture and productivity
  • Housekeeping ethos of ‘a place for everything and everything it its place’.
  • Attending daily reviews and the necessary business cadence including layered audits
  • Supporting commercial activities as needed
  • Actively participate at SQDCIP Walk round as part of cross-functional team
  • Suggest & take actions at SQDCIP walk round and where possible respond to actions that are in your capability to do so, in a timely manner
  • A key role in the selection and introduction of new machinery
  • Co-ordinate, when required, production trials from Change Requests
  • Co-ordinate, when required, and/or facilitate production trials from NPI products
  • Works collaboratively within and across teams

 

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • Previous experience of a ‘SAFETY FIRST’ culture with a zero tolerance and continuous safety improvement mentality or equivalent is desirable, however not essential
  • Mechanical engineering qualifications or experience
  • CAD experience required.
  • Previous experience of a ‘Quality’ management culture or equivalent is desirable, not essential
  • Previous experience of working in a medium to large manufacturing environment
  • Experience working within a disciplined and system-controlled environment.
  • Experience of working with a SQDCIP (or equivalent) production management
  • Previous experience of working in a Trade Union environment
  • Have the highest of personal standards with an ability to mentor and promote improvement through Lean techniques such as value stream mapping, 5s, standard work cellular flow, mistake proofing, total productive maintenance
