JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Sustainability Certification Manager to join our growing team.

 

 

The Opportunity

 

Under the general supervision of the FSC Certification Manager (FCM), the Sustainability Manager is responsible for ensuring that all JELD-WEN product sustainable certifications, testing and audits under their auspices are always current. This position works under the FCM and closely with the Product Line Managers, Product Engineers, Material Scientists, and various plant personnel communicating all current sustainability certifications, test standards and audits on their products. This position continuously develops strategies to achieve JELD-WEN organizational goals, R&D objectives, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).     

 

What You Will Do

 

  • Under the auspices of the FCM, prepares product documentation for product certification or listing to include collecting detailed drawings, bill of materials prior to testing and assists with supplier / JW site audits, as well as other product sustainability efforts.
  • Ensures that all JELD-WEN products comply with applicable sustainability certification requirements with a high degree of quality, accuracy, and thoroughness.  These include Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), Material recycled content, Formaldehyde volume / CARB / TSCA, Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Life Cycle Analyses (LCAs), Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) and others as identified by changing regulations or business requirements.
  • Ensures that all certification information, for all company products is available on the jeld-wen.com and R&D database for use by plant employees, sales, marketing, and customer service departments in a timely manner.
  • Provides technical support to all plants and customers with questions pertaining to sustainability certifications, and labeling related issues, and addresses them accordingly and promptly, and in a professional manner.
  • Trains production plants on JELD-WEN sustainability requirements.
  • Designs and generates creative solutions on their respective product line(s).
  • Completes their tasks on time or notifies the FCM on an alternate plan, and provides, as needed, periodic updates to the FCM and more senior level management in R&D as directed. 
  • Manages projects until completion. Communicates accurately, effectively, and efficiently to all affected R&D personnel up and down the departmental hierarchy, to include cross-functional JELD-WEN business units and teams.
  • Preserves organizational resources, and follows and upholds JELD-WEN’s policies and procedures, Mission Statement, KPI’s, organizational values, etc.
  • Follows prescribed safety regulations per lab, plant and/or facility policies and procedures, including OSHA regulations and guidelines. 
  • Represents JELD-WEN at technical industry organizations as needed or directed.
  • If required monitors and reviews the performance of staff and organizes necessary employee evaluations annually, bi-annually, and/or as needed.
  • Performs other or specified duties as assigned or directed by Superiors.

 

 

 

Who You Are

 

  •  Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four (4) years or more of relevant experience, preferably in the sustainability arena or window and door industry.
  • An Associate’s Degree; Technical Certifications, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree at the discretion of management.
  • Applied experience working in sustainability field preferred .
  • Familiarity with writing of standards and regulations is ideal. 
  • Above average verbal, written, communication, analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills, along with the ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, suppliers, and the general public.
  • Sound leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and managerial skills. 
  • Solid team skills, including the ability to coach and develop R&D work teams, and provide mentoring and appropriate training to subordinate personnel. 
  • The ability to motivate/empower others, and resolve conflict. 
  • Good knowledge of JELD-WEN door and window products and raw materials.
  • Extremely good mathematical skills, including concepts such as probability and statistical inference, as well as advanced geometry and trigonometry knowledge.
  • Good understanding of governmental regulations, along with the ability to read, modify, and write technical instructions for R&D in accordance with said regulations and product certification issues.
  • The ability to stay up to date on industry developments by reading business periodicals, professional journals, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of JELD-WEN’s Mission Statement, Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), New Product Development (NPD) and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other position appropriate JELD-WEN software computer programs and applications.
  • Should be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities; work in a fast paced lab, office and/or manufacturing environment, and have the ability to train personnel across the organization at all levels on code, certification and test standards.
  • Solid knowledge of health and safety standards and compliance in the lab, and basic understanding of same in a manufacturing environment.
  • Travel: 15% to 30%.
