SUMMARY OF GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Structural Lab Manager, the R&D Structural Test Lab Technician II is responsible for technological assistance and support, including the responsibility to collect data and assemble test results within defined test procedures and conduct ASTM tests on doors and windows. This position will focus primarily on Door and Window and related products, raw materials and components.    

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Working under the auspices of the Structural Lab Manager, this position works under minimal supervision and provides minimum to moderate supervision and leadership to Level I Structural Test Lab Technicians. This person must be competent with relevant test procedures, product evaluation, test instrument proficiency, and capable of performing routine maintenance on the structural lab equipment.  Performs laboratory tests or other laboratory work using conventional and computerized machines and work aids.  Set-ups, adjusts, assures calibration and operates essential Door and Window laboratory equipment and instrumentation and performs routine maintenance of this equipment. Test sample preparation – bucking, building, and assembly. Performs and completes testing to industry standards that include: ASTM E 283, E 547, E 331, E 330, F 588, F 842, , E1886/1996 and other test standards and methods.   Records test results and observations neatly and coherently in the Structural Test Lab database, server files, and record book. Authors draft technical reports with clear, concise and presentable language in the R&D format.  Maintains their assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Position follows prescribed safety regulations per lab, plant and/or facility policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of safety glasses, ear plugs, masks, and other appropriate safety equipment as required in R&D and in order to be in a lab, on a plant floor, facilities and grounds. Performs all job duties in a safe and efficient/effective manner. Reports unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use their hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with their hands and arms. This position is required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, testing equipment, lift files, blueprints, hardware, software and phones, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be on occasion exposed to fumes, cleaning solutions, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and machines, vibrations and loud noises. All safety protocols including OSHA guidelines as mentioned above are mandatory.
