Position Title:  Project Manager

 

Position Rating/Level:   Management position

 

Job Purpose:  The R&D Project Manager is responsible for the project management and oversight of the design, development, validation and commercialization of new products, VAVE/Cost Reduction efforts and Sustaining Engineering activities. This position manages New Product Launches from R&D, directing all phases from inception through completion and works with the teams to implement product VAVE efforts through the organization. The PM works closely with the cross-functional teams in R&D, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Sales, Marketing, etc., to introduce and manage new products and product changes for JELD-WEN.  This is a high-level position that requires specific product line training and drives project completion in accordance with JELD-WEN’s strategic goals.

Location: Charlotte, NC or Klamath Falls, OR

           

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

           

Responsibilities:

  • Document the clear scope of the project, oversee and/or develop project plans, develop the team, and execute the plans through project completion within set timelines.
  • Lead the project team in planning project tasks, milestones and deliverables – prepares a breakdown of the work following the product development process and ensures timely/correct completion of deliverables to meet project objectives
  • Provide overviews and status updates to members of Senior Management and other cross-functional teams; chairing project review and pre-submittal meetings.
  • Manage and supervise the work of the team members assigned to the Project Team; promoting communication at all levels from R&D, Manufacturing, Administrative, including Senior Management, from inception to completion.
  • Develop and administer project budgets, schedules and performance standards, tracking accountability of team to objectives; ensuring clear project definition/objectives.
  • Organize and facilitate project meetings - agendas, meeting notes, action items, outcomes, adjustments, and decisions.
  • Act as the focal point of contact for all project issues and provide the necessary input to R&D Teams and other key stakeholders at multi-site projects/locations.
  • Capture, prioritize, track, and drive closure on all project-related issues including tracking risks, mitigation plans and leading out of crises as needed.
  • Demonstrate a primary commitment to product safety and quality by maintaining compliance with R&D policies/procedures while utilizing VA/VE methodologies.
  • Assure that appropriate resources are maintained for the project, from R&D to production, and drives the project to completion.
  • Facilitate and troubleshoot the myriad of problems associated with developing complex R&D products and improve the performance and functionality of same.

   

 Qualifications:

  • BS degree with 2-4 years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Production experience desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, MS Project, Outlook), and additional Project Management software applications.
  • Demonstrated track record of defining and driving significant improvement initiatives through the use of R&D innovation and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities, and the ability to drive the Product and Project Management process from inception to completion in a collaborative manner.
  • Must be innovative and complete projects effectively, efficiently, and on-time.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing process improvement techniques needed along with broad product knowledge across multiple product lines preferred.
  • Excellent managerial skills with the ability to communicate effectively and oversee, direct, evaluate, work with and motivate subordinate personnel.
  • The ability to work with VP’s, GM’s, Engineering, Operations and other Manufacturing personnel to ensure that R&D, Product Line Management, Engineering, and Operations is meeting their design and project needs, goals and objectives. 
  • The ability to motivate subordinate personnel and communicate deadlines and urgencies to Product and Project Teams as needed, or as directed.
  • Demonstrated management skills with the ability to resolve conflict effectively and problem solve with a positive and professional attitude. 

 

Travel:

  • 25% travel is anticipated.
