R&D Intern

JELD-WEN is currently seeking a R&D Intern to join our growing team. 

The R&D Intern role directly supports Product Engineers in the design and development of new products.  Also supports processing engineering changes to existing product and cost savings initiatives.  Typical tasks involve using 2D and 3D CAD packages to create high quality models and drawings in accordance with company standards, building prototypes, performing product and competitive testing, and any other tasks requested to support product design and development.  A high level of pride in one’s work and attention to detail is essential, as the work produced by this position is the foundation for producing a high-quality product.

Duties: Working under direct supervision of Product Engineers:

• Create high quality 2D component and assembly drawings in accordance with corporate and industry standards
• Incorporate changes into existing production drawings
• Create drawing trees and preliminary bill of materials
• Create high quality 3D models in accordance with corporate standards
• Perform First Article part inspections
• Support/assist in product builds
• Maintain project information within SharePoint, Autodesk Vault, and corporate proprietary systems
• Performs tasks within the estimated schedules as determined by the Product Engineer

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Education: Pursuing a degree in a technical or engineering field
• CAD: Autodesk Inventor, Vault, and AutoCAD or equivalent software
• Microsoft Applications: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint
• General experience with shop tools (and associated safety practices) to include drills, saws, nail guns, staple guns, etc.
• Strong interpersonal skills
• High level of pride in quality of work and attention to detail

Requirements:

• Minimum 20 hrs/week
