JOB DESCRIPTION: The Plant Maintenance Electrician will be responsible for maintaining all plant electrical equipment.  Troubleshoot and repair of equipment will require availability on backshifts as necessary.  This and other responsibilities outlined under this job description will be accomplished in a safe and efficient manner. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintenance:
    • Be alert for any equipment malfunctions or potential breakdowns.
    • Assist in the repair and maintenance of fiberline related equipment when needed.
    • Perform preventative maintenance as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
    • Conduct routine or emergency repairs as needed.
    • Know the machine parts and assist Millwright with major repairs.
    • Provide scheduled shift coverage for Millwrights as required (when qualified).
  • Safety:
    • Follow all start-up and shutdown procedures.
    • Use all available safety equipment and keep all safety guards in place unless specifically approved by supervisor and necessary for troubleshooting.
    • Use extreme caution when working on or around machinery.
    • Know locations of all master switches and emergency stops for all equipment.
    • Follow all Jeld-Wen safety procedures such as (but not limited to) lock-out, making sure equipment is clear of personnel before starting up, warning horn etc.
    • Sound the siren and shut down necessary equipment in the event of a fire.
    • Know emergency procedures in event of fire or explosion.
    • Keep informed of any and all hazardous materials and the proper use of handling of hazardous materials.
    • Perform all work IAW National Electric Code.
  • Quality:
    • Perform all work in an organized and efficient manner that will ensure that troubleshooting and future modifications can be completed without excessive hardship.
    • Perform repairs in a permanent fashion whenever possible.
  • Electrical Parts Inventory Management:
    • Organize storage areas to maximize storage space.
    • Within set dollar limits, reorder parts per a maximum and minimum level set by the Maintenance Manager according to maintenance program guidelines.
    • Maintain a set level on all electrical consumables as prescribed by the Maintenance Manager.
    • Return items for warranty repair or shipping damage including packaging and UPS labeling.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Lift heavy loads, up to 50 lbs, upon occasion.
    • Stand 2 to 3 hours continuously between break times.
    • Climb stairs and ladder accesses to work and maintenance areas.
    • Enter confined space areas.
  • Housekeeping:
    • Keep all electrical parts storage areas clean and organized.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • All applicants will be required to take a written electrical skills test.
  • All applicants without a LME or Journeyman license will have to be enrolled in an apprenticeship program.  Although tuition will be paid, classroom hours (minimum of 144/year) will not be paid.  A minimum of four years is required to complete this program.
  • The first 1000 hours (approximately 6 months) of this apprenticeship is considered probationary and the apprenticeship can be terminated by the employee or employer without.
