JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Maintenance to join our growing team. 

 

Overview

A millwright will be responsible for performing installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of any mechanical or rotating equipment for the plant.  One who is proactive in addressing different challenges and is willing to adapt, based on the business needs. The millwright will report directly to the Maintenance Manager. Job Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Be able to perform installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of any mechanical or rotating equipment
  • Make rounds during shift to inspect equipment by looking, listening and feeling of operating machines and equipment
  • Make timely repairs of any noticeable defects at first opportunity.
  • Maintain personal tools and company provided tools in top working order
  • Cross train with the electrician’s  to perform basic duties when needed and called upon
  • Pass forklift operator’s test and operate forklift to move heavy parts and materials as needed
  • Monitor Tool Storage cage for missing or damaged tools and report findings to Maintenance Manager
  • Be the first point of contact during a repair and lead others in a safe and organized manner
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Be able to read and use various measuring devices in order to align motors to pumps and gearboxes
  • Be able to align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, string lines and plumb bobs
  • Be familiar with various coupling systems such as belts and sheaves, lovejoy and grid couplings
  • Use computer based parts program to locate spare parts in a timely fashion
  • Assemble and install complex equipment, using specialized tools following O&E Manuals
  • Understand crane signals, safely communicate to crane operator when lifting

and moving heavy equipment in critical areas of work

  •  Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts

  • Understand how to install, set-up and grease various bearings such as roller, tapered, ball, B-lock and sleeve bearings
  • Be able to work at heights, on high structures and top of buildings, also operate scissor lifts and man lifts when needed
  • Layout basic piping systems according to drawings and weld pipe joints and fittings using flanges and spiral wound gaskets
  • Assemble machines, and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools
  • Lay out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with a power drill or drill press
  • Bolt parts, such as side and deck plates, jaw plates, and journals, to basic assembly unit
  • Square up and level equipment using basic math formulas, straightedge, levels, or transit
  • Dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, pinch bars, com-a-longs and other hand tools
  • Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, bearings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified items, using portable gas heating equipment
  • Dismantle centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, install rebuild kits and reassemble
  • Construct foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, and steel
  • Use cutting torch and welding equipment to fabricate framing, guards and jigs to assist with maintenance work

 

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Graduation from high school, or possession of a G.E.D.
  • 2-5 years of experience in maintenance and repair of manufacturing related plant equipment or other related commercial equipment is highly desirable
  • Critical thinking, exceptional problem-solving skills, and ability to read blueprints.
  • Proactive, resourceful and highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment
  • Be able to pass basic mechanical aptitude test along with shop fabrication test
  • Ability to balance multiple projects in an organized manner
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Strong team working and communication skills. Be able to lead and work with a diverse team
  • Good understanding of mechanical principals is a plus
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule as needed
  • Willing to undergo a thorough background and drug screening process

 

Safety

  • Follow JELD-WEN policies and procedures
  • Comply with all OSHA safety standards as a minimum requirement
  • PPE:
      • Eye Protection: Required in all production areas – inside and out
      • Hearing Protection: Required at all times when machinery is operating or excessive noise is being generated
      • Footwear: Steel-toe shoes/boots are required – ANSI rating
      • All other PPE provided by employer on an “as needed” basis. Use of all PPE will comply with OSHA standards
  • Lock-out/Tag-out procedures
    • Commit no unsafe acts. Stay aware of the task at hand and consider all safety issues prior to starting. Look out for co-worker safety
    • Avoid loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair that can get caught in machinery. Follow dress code requirements
    • Job tasks include extended periods of walking, standing, and the use of steps and ladders. Follow paths meant for human passage and always maintain three points of contacts on steps and ladders

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Quality: Make quality repairs on equipment to bring it as close to new condition as possible with the parts and tools available.
  • Housekeeping: Cleanup after all jobs insuring all tools, parts and trash are put away properly. Clean Maintenance Shop at the end of each shift, pick up tools and keep work areas organized and ready for next shift.
  • Communications: Report any concerns or deficiencies to the Maintenance Manager. Be professional when communicating with outside suppliers and contractors. Maintain good communication with Production staff and work together to maintain all equipment in top working condition.
  • General: Keep safety in the forefront of all activities. Keep plant in top operating condition at all times. Disable and report in unsafe or damaged tools. Perform all other duties assigned by management.
