We're looking for a Continuous Improvement Practitioner to join our Continuous Improvement Team in Penrith, Cumbria.


  • The Penrith site produces in excess of 40,000 internal doors a week – it’s a fast past paced high volume dynamic work environment with ever changing challenges and opportunities to continually improve the overall performance.
  • Jeld-Wen acquired the Penrith site in 2002, with 180 employees and a footprint of 24,000 square metres the site manufactures over 2m doors per year. The site is in a great location on the edge of the Lake District with easy access to the motorway network.

We are looking for someone with a background in Lean Manufacturing who can influence, inspire, and drive culture change towards a lean manufacturing environment. You will have a hands on practical approach to making improvements and have the skills to train, coach and mentor employees at all levels across the business on their JEM journey. In this role you will help to identify improvement opportunities, effectively deploy lean tools and techniques, plan, facilitate and deliver Kaizen events and systematically develop and improve business process stability.


This position is perfect for a results focussed driven performer who has a proven background in continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment.





  • Pro-active safety approach by identifying safety improvement opportunities.
  • Deliver weekly, monthly & quarterly Kaizen events of differing scales & expectations.
  • Contribute to delivering a minimum of 3% year on year net productivity savings and 5% worth of validated productivity projects on a rolling 12-month basis.
  • Contribute towards our 100% JEM Assessment goal for end of 2023.
  • Deliver sustainable improvement through joint deployment of product quality standards and the continuous improvement of these standards through system compliance and demonstrable 3c prioritisation and achievement.
  • A key contributor to the Penrith CI Team creating and developing training material, sharing knowledge, leading standardisation, coaching and developing teams to deliver and sustain 5S improvements
  • Manage the transition from product controls to process controls as part of our “Door 2 Quality” programme
  • Support a positive culture transformation across the site through effective participation; enable the team across all levels of the business to continually improve people’s capability, processes and procedures and sustain improvements.
  • Contribute to the site lean capabilities through effective training, mentoring, and coaching to build effective teams and drive employee engagement, involvement, and deployment.

  • Previous experience of ‘world class’ manufacturing business processes and an ability to go beyond maintenance and management through change and implementation, showing resilience, determination, and drive.
  • Deployment of Lean tools including problem solving root cause analysis
  • Process change control, failure modes effect analysis
  • Extensive understanding of SQDCIP or equivalent.
  • Be a motivator, instigator, and inspirer
  • Project management
  • Good communication skills across all levels of the business.
  • Excellent IT and analysis skills and capabilities.
  • A confident trainer/coach who is capable of delivering a wide range of Lean tools & techniques
