JELD-WEN is currently seeking a NA Code & Regulatory Program Manager to join our growing team. 

 

THE ROLE

Under the general supervision of the NA Leader Sustainability & Certification (LSC), the NA Code & Regulatory Program Manager (CRP) is responsible for ensuring that JELD-WEN has a direct understanding of the North American building and energy codes that are applicable to the JELD-WEN’s products specified and installed in residential and commercial buildings. The NA Code & Regulatory Program Manager is additionally responsible for analyzing the regulatory compliance requirements pertaining to use of and inclusion of certain recognized toxic substances and of voluntary programs such as the EPA’s ENERGY STAR for windows, doors, and skylights certification program, and communicating proposed and adopted regulations to JELD-WEN. This position works under the LSC and closely with the Product Line Managers, Sourcing Managers, Product Engineers, Material Scientists, Sales Directors, Marketing, Legal, Architectural Consultants, and R&D Product Certification Managers. This position continuously develops strategies to achieve JELD-WEN organizational goals, R&D objectives, and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).     

 

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and participating as necessary in the development and adoption of building and energy codes with analysis where there is direct impact on JELD-WEN’s ability to provide code compliant products to JELD-WEN customers throughout North America.
  • Monitoring and participating as necessary in the development and adoption of industry standards and regulations with analysis of the proposal(s) impacts to JELD-WEN products or the ability to lawfully provide them to our customers.
  • Develop positions and strategies to communicate JELD-WEN’s position in support of changes or seek disapproval of changes we find unacceptable based on our analysis of the proposed code, standard or regulation modification.
  • Provide at a minimum, quarterly codes and regulatory updates to various JELD-WEN internal divisions including sales and engineering. Updates to include forecasting with analysis of the expected implementation and impact to JELD-WEN.
  • Develop and maintain with updates a comprehensive code adoption database that is available to internal JELD-WEN users on the R&D database.
  • Develop and maintain a database of product performance requirements including PG/DP ratings, impact requirements, ES and IECC Climate Zone requirements specific to each of the Mass Merchandiser store locations.
  • Provide code and regulation interpretations where use of JELD-WEN products is necessary to comply with site specific regulations with a high degree of quality, accuracy, and thoroughness.
  • Provide technical support to Engineering, R&D, Sales Marketing and Legal relating to questions pertaining to codes, certifications, and labeling issues, and addresses them accordingly and promptly, and in a professional manner.
  • Provide training and/or training assistance to JELD-WEN associated with building and energy codes, regulatory issues, and standards interpretations and how JELD-WEN must comply with those requirements.
  • Complete their tasks on time or notifies the NA Leader Sustainability & Certification (LSC) on an alternate plan, and provides, as needed, periodic updates to the LSC and more senior level management in R&D as directed.  
  • Manage projects until completion. Communicates accurately, effectively, and efficiently to all affected R&D personnel up and down the departmental hierarchy, to include cross-functional JELD-WEN business units and teams.
  • Preserve organizational resources, and follows and upholds JELD-WEN’s policies and procedures, Mission Statement, KPI’s, organizational values, etc.
  • Follow prescribed safety regulations per lab, plant and/or facility policies and procedures, including OSHA regulations and guidelines.  
  • Represent JELD-WEN at industry organizations such as FGIA, WDMA, NFRC and ASTM as needed or directed. Accepting leadership responsibilities is desired.
  • If required monitors and reviews the performance of staff and organizes necessary employee evaluations annually, bi-annually, and/or as needed.
  • Perform other or specified duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Above average verbal, written, communication, analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, suppliers, and the general public.
  • Sound leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and managerial skills. 
  • Solid team skills, including the ability to coach and develop R&D work teams, and provide mentoring and appropriate training to subordinate personnel. 
  • The ability to motivate/empower others and resolve conflict. 
  • Good knowledge of JELD-WEN door and window products and raw materials.
  • Exceptionally good mathematical skills, including concepts such as probability and statistical inference, as well as advanced geometry and trigonometry knowledge.
  • Proficient understanding of governmental regulations, along with the ability to analyze and write technical instructions for R&D in accordance with adopted regulations and product certification requirements.
  • Must stay up current on industry developments by reading business periodicals, professional journals, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of JELD-WEN’s Mission Statement, Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other position appropriate JELD-WEN software computer programs and applications.
  • Should be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities; work in a fast-paced environment and can train personnel across the organization at all levels on code, regulatory, certification and test standards.
  • Solid knowledge of health and safety standards and compliance with a basic understanding of the same in an office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment.
  • Travel: 15% to 30%.

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four (4) years or more of relevant experience, preferably in the window and door industry.
  • An Associate Degree, Technical Certifications, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree at the discretion of management.
  • Applied experience working with code bodies and/or standards development organizations associated with window and door products preferred.
  • Technical writing skills including of standards and code change proposals is ideal.
