As a valued member of the North American Sourcing Team, the Supplier Development & Risk Manager is responsible for deploying a supplier improvement process to engage with key suppliers, develop performance improvement plans and works with internal and external stakeholders to drive closure of actions to achieve the performance targets.


This role will assist and drive key suppliers into making long-lasting improvements within their operations that increases output, improves delivery performance, and reduces costs. The supplier development role is both adventurous and independent. Operating frequently in the field with daily contacts at higher levels within the supplier organization, this person should work with operational challenges to drive improvements that benefit both JELD-WEN and our suppliers. Great analytical capabilities and excellent communication skills are needed to influence the need for change and execute on the established plans.




  • Partner with Sourcing, Purchasing, Engineering, Product Management, and Operations’ stakeholders to create supplier development plans for selected critical suppliers focused on delivery, capacity, and supplier process capabilities
  • Track the supplier’s performance indicators, based on their scorecards and rankings, to facilitate and develop the supply base’s ability to consistently meet or exceed defined expectations.
  • Leads visits at key supplier sites to diagnose delivery performance issues, and coordinate improvement activities, inclusive of Kaizen events, process improvements and quality system improvements
  • Develop a pipeline of cost improvement opportunities by conducting on-site Rapid Plant Assessments, Supplier Readiness/Health Assessments, and other supplier development tools (e.g. process mapping, value-stream mapping, etc.). 
  • Lead and/or support multiple cross-functional VAVE activities such as teardown workshops to fill the cost-out pipeline
  • Actively monitor supplier financial and operational risks using advanced tools and methodologies; partner with category managers to drive required changes to minimize risks
  • Lead and drive Sourcing Department continuous improvement activities to innovate and optimize ways of working through development of tools, methodology, or processes in the areas of teardown events, supplier risk assessment, LCC supplier identification, RFQ management, supplier lead time improvements, etc.
  • Prepare and report out on supplier development/improvement metrics to the steering committee and stakeholders to demonstrate impact of engagement process. Effectively communicates to internal and external groups, facilitating appropriate escalation.



Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and at least 5+ years of experience in Supplier Development or similar functions in a large, multi-divisional organization
  • Minimum 3 years of Lean / Continuous Improvement experience. Six Sigma certification a plus. 
  • Strong experience working with manufacturing processes used to produce components and assemblies
  • Has developed supply chain and crisis management skills 

  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment 

  • Desire to work in a collaborative team towards a common purpose

  • Strong integrity and creativity

  • Flexibility and preparedness to travel up to 50% with short notice

  • Strong influencing, collaboration, and relationship-building skills both internally and externally with suppliers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Manage multiple priorities/projects simultaneously in order to meet established deadlines.
