ABOUT THE ROLE 

The JELD-WEN Summer Internship Program empowers talented undergraduate students to gain real-world working experience and professional development in one of six potential business areas. This position is in our Operations line of business and this intern will be part of the team that focuses on Quality. The internship program includes meaningful projects and challenging work assignments geared at developing professional competencies and skills in a chosen discipline. Additionally, throughout the summer internship, participants will have the opportunity for professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities to help enhance future leadership. 

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO  

Examples of opportunities that Interns have received in the past are:  

  

  • Be part of a new and innovative quality team that will focus on identifying opportunities for material and process quality improvements that will ensure operational excellence 

  • Learn about supplier quality and how to communicate specifications to suppliers to ensure material quality requirements are met 

  • Learn about standard work and assist with product and process audits; support recommendations to ensure process conformance 

  • Learn about A3 problem solving and how to arrive at root cause to solve problems more effectively 

  • Support the supplier claim process for material returns 

  • Visit a nearby plant for practical application of quality concepts

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION 

Required 

  • Currently enrolled rising junior or senior students majoring in: Materials Engineering or related Engineering disciple 

  • Experience or relevant coursework in Quality Assurance 

  • Intermediate Excel proficiency with an understanding of pivot tables 

  • Demonstrated work ethic and detail-orientation 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills 

  • Ability and willingness to show initiative in a fast-paced environment and work to a high caliber  

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team 

Recommended  

  • Minimum GPA 3.0  

  • Concentration of focus in Operations Quality or Quality Assurance 

  • Experience with Power BI 

  • Relevant internship or previous work experience is desired 

  • Leadership experience and relationship-building skills
