REMOTE available (location preference - TX, OH, NC, FL.)


Under the general supervision of the Director Advanced Engineering, the Senior Mechanical Engineer provides engineering design and automation and support for operations by leading projects such as Autonomous Guided Vehicles (Tugger, Forklifts, Pallet Jacks, E-Cart etc.), Industrial and Collaborative Robots, Vision Systems, and CFO (Critical for Operation) Equipment.  Design Systems for electronic integration and paperless production. DFMEA for Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) by eliminating waste and reducing cost (JEM & SQDCI approach) in the value chain. Experience in supporting and leading improvement activities in a high pace manufacturing environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hands on experience in design and automation projects for manufacturing facilities.
  • Good understanding of the functionality of manufacturing equipment and material handling devices such as CNC’s, Roll formers, Metal Stamping Presses, Paint Systems, AGV’s, Robots, Automatic Conveyors, and Industrial automation.
  • Project Management experience up to and including leading complex automation projects.
  • Perform Financial Justification for projects and work with stakeholders for effective technology usage.
  • Develop concepts, select, and implement the best technology for the application.
  • Collaborate with other Jeld Wen Business Units for best practice sharing and implement best sharing for the application.
  • Select the technological partner and Vendors for business-critical applications.
  • Develop and implement material flow automation strategy in entire product value chain.
  • Work with cross functional teams for timeline project completions.  As an Sr. Design Engineer, you will work upstream in the Mfg. Process development cycle with advanced manufacturing team, management, and other product owners to ensure the functionality of new features and the success of continual platform innovation across the impacted value stream(s).
  • Create Visual management, Dashboards and Accountability processes.

Education and Experience:

  • 10 years or more experience in Design and Automation in a highly automated manufacturing environment with demonstrated results in improvements in SQDCI.
  • Data Analytics, Critical Reasoning, Justification, Presentation & Decision-making Ability.
  • Project Management Experience in leading multisite projects.
  • Develop and implement strategy using structured process such as A3, Value Stream Maps, Lean Tools, and Six Sigma methods.
  • Preferred, Bachelor’s degree in 4-year Degree in an Mechanical Engineering, or in any engineering discipline.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing and operational excellence is preferred.
  • Detail oriented, analytical, and creative thinker with passion for quality processes. 
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and the ability to work across the organization and interact/influence/negotiate effectively with Senior Management and with all levels of management at multiple facilities/locations.   
  • Ability to effectuate operational changes as needed and as directed.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of integrity, ethical standards, and confidentiality.  
  • Ability to contain problems, prioritize accordingly, and propose a resolution.
  • Ability to work independently, raise issues, and take corrective action.
  • Experience in successfully dealing with integrated devices or embedded systems. #LI-TG1  #LI-Remote
