THE ROLE

 

Background: Over the last 24 months Jeld-Wen has moved from a primarily on-premise operating model to a hybrid cloud infrastructure that includes business critical ERP systems hosted in Microsoft Azure.  The hosted workloads include both infrastructure as a service and platform service offerings hosted regionally with a global footprint.  (North America, Australasia and Europe)

 

The Sr Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing services within the hybrid IT Cloud Infrastructure environment.  Some key functions of this role include: Plan and transition existing workloads from on-premise;  Provide recommendations for automations; Provide a framework for DevOps that meets the company’s policies and security standards; Provide thought leadership on new cloud capabilities; Develop business cases to justify cloud investments considering both business requirements and cost; Review cloud spend to identify savings opportunities while optimizing investments; Analyze existing processes and support a culture of continuous improvement aligned with the Jeld-Wen Excellence Model.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement high availability, scalability, and performance plans for the Azure managed service environment.
  • Define, implement, and maintain enterprise class security, network and systems management applications within an Azure environment or colocation facility.
  • Define and implement infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques to migrate workloads into Azure.
  • Build and support a robust continuous deployment framework for cloud solutions.
  • Collaborate with project teams to gather technical requirements, architect solutions, and execute on deliverables.
  • Optimize and evolve operations processes to effectively support a global hybrid cloud infrastructure aligned with the Jeld-Wen Excellence (JEM) model.
  • Analyze and resolve configuration issues in development, test, and production cloud environments.
  • Troubleshoot cloud applications to resolve computer, storage, network and other infrastructure problems.
  • Build effective monitoring, logging and auditing of production systems to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Provide support for Office365 framework.
  • Provide support for major incident management and ensure timely resolution.
  • Act as a mentor to System Admins.
  • Create documentation as needed.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field and 7 plus years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Cloud Technologies with a focus on Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Platform & Services.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with application integrations including data and cloud elements.
  • Expertise in IT process optimization and transformation and ITIL Certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with agile methodology to accelerate solution delivery and continuous improvement with examples.
  • Strong foundational understanding of financial analysis for technology investments and cost modeling (ROI, TCO, capital vs expense)
  • Proven ability to work with business partners to understand their challenges and goals, framing technology solutions and decisions with business focused language and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated hands on experience with automation platforms such as Terraform, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Proven success in fast paced and dynamic environments.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external resources at all levels.
  • Use of Microsoft applications with intermediate skills in Excel and Word applications
  • Must have strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to provide off-hour support as the job requires.
