Head of North American Communications  (Remote optional)

The Head of North American (NA) Communications is a strategic communications leader responsible for creating an integrated internal and external communications strategy for JELD-WEN’s North America business. Reporting to the VP, Human Resources North America and dotted line to the VP, Global Communications, this leader will develop and execute a NA-specific internal communications strategy – in alignment with the global internal communications strategy.  This includes developing and executing executive NA communications, supporting marketing PR plans that drive the business and ensure all NA associates in NA are informed on key business, employee and community initiatives. He/she will work closely with the VP of NA Marketing and VP of Global Corporate Communications to ensure internal and external messaging is consistent, recommending improvements to communication channels and promoting why JELD-WEN is a great company to buy from, work for and invest in to key stakeholders in NA. He/She will surface great stories in NA that help shape JELD-WEN’s brand and reputation. 

 

This leader will work closely with NA executive leaders on their internal communication needs, ensuring consistent message alignment across the global organization.  He/she will need to be a creative storyteller, drive employee advocacy of the brand and look for innovative ways to amplify key messages. 

 

 

Essential Functions: 

 

  • Delivers an integrated North America communications strategy - in alignment with the global communications strategy - that builds employees’ understanding of the business and their role in future growth, while maintaining a strong connection to the JELD-WEN culture and values 

  • Works with global communications team to implement internal communications guidelines, governance models and creates a unified voice across NA employee communications 

  • Partners with the global and regional communication teams to share best practices and ensures a consistent narrative both internally and externally 

  • Partners closely with NA senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders, acting as a trusted strategic communication advisor, and proactively supports their communication needs 

  • Directs and prioritizes internal communications content creation and maintains a cadence of messaging for various NA channels – from videos to face-to-face to written, etc. 

  • Supports crisis communications in NA, as needed 

  • Executes or oversees the execution of internal communications for NA on various channels and internal events including but not limited to, the intranet, internal social media platform, town halls, manager toolkits and internal conferences 

  • Works with Marketing and agencies to support PR campaigns on product launches or other marketing initiatives as needed 

  • Supports global internal communications on financial milestones, including potential M&A activity 

  • Partners closely with corporate public relations and marketing to amplify any content externally 

  • Works with HR and global communications to support employee value proposition strategy and brand efforts  

  • Drives measurable, data-driven results while creating and implementing unique, creative and highly impactful initiatives focused on key audiences 

  • Stays current with latest trends in communication channels and digital media, and makes recommendations for further development 

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned 

 

 

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in a communications role that spans both internal and external communications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or similar 

  • Preferred 3 years of experience in a manager-level corporate communications setting, including management of outside agencies or contractors 

  • Proven track record of managing executive communications, developing and executing internal communications strategies and plans 

  • Must be a strategic communicator with strong business acumen that can also deliver high quality work product while working in a matrixed organization 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written (email and formal documents) and verbal (meetings and presentations) 

  • Innovative storytelling capabilities and fluency in multiple content types – editorial, social, digital, etc. 

  • Experience in PR/publicity of product launches or other marketing communications 

  • Knowledge and understanding of content management systems 

  • Ability to build relationships and work in a cross-functional team environment across the enterprise 

  • Excellent project management skills, problem-solving and decision-making ability; keeps the team organized and prioritizes projects for results 

  • Able to look around corners and anticipate future needs 

  • Proven track record producing quality content for audiences
