JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Employee Relations Advisor to join our growing team.

 

The Opportunity:

 

The Employee Relations (ER) Advisor position is instrumental in carrying out investigative and employee relations duties for the enterprise.  This role will design, conduct, and report investigations for sensitive and/or complex personnel matters and within the Compliance area.  Additionally, the ER Advisor role will contribute to the continued development and improvement of the employee relations and investigative functions, through focus on compliant investigations, stakeholder training, a positive employee experience, and best practices implementation.   The investigative and training aspects of this role will require nationwide travel on occasion to conduct investigations and/or provide direct coaching and education to Company associates.    

 

This role reports to the Assistant General Counsel for Labor & Employment and is within the Legal Department, which sits in the Charlotte, NC headquarters office.  

 

Your Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Significant experience and expertise in investigations, including workplace investigations that implicate state and/or federal equal employment laws (e.g., harassment, discrimination) 

  • Ability to conduct investigations objectively, thoroughly, and empathetically  

  • Ability to conduct interviews; analyze data from various internal systems; provide consultation on remedial action based on investigative findings; identify conflicts of interests; and draft supporting documentation, including investigative reports.  

  • A personal strength of emotional intelligence 

  • Verbal communication that is organized and concise, when needed. 

  • Significant experience drafting investigative summaries, reports and other notes 

  • A proactive and problem-solving mindset to identify, suggest and assist in addressing root cause issues  

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently to manage individual caseload 

  • Ability to provide experience-based consultation and best practices to other practitioners  

  • Ability to analyze and aggregate casework data to identify issue trends and opportunities for proactive issue mitigation 

  • Cross-functional work between Labor & Employment, Compliance, Business Units and Human Resources primarily  

  • Interaction with employees at all levels of the company, helping to build trust, understanding and transparency and instill confidence in JELD-WEN’s reporting and investigation processes.  

  • Ability to work on critical employee relations issues that crisis-oriented and need to be completed with limited time allotment. 

  • Proven project management skills, including building sponsorship, communications, and stakeholder management  

 

 

Who You Are:

 

  • Minimum 7+ years combined human resources, employee relations, Legal, or HR investigation experience and compliance work. Preferrable in the manufacturing industry.  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.    

  • Experience with Case Management Systems including back-end administration and reporting.  

  • Experience working regularly with attorneys or in Legal environment 

  • Experience with developing and delivering effective presentations, and training material to a variety of audiences in a fast paced, high growth environment.  

  • Expert understanding of compliance regulations and ability to translate policies to action.  

  • Solid general understanding of federal and state employment laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

  • Experience in conducting investigative work, including interviews with complainants, witnesses, and potentially involved parties, investigative data analysis, and production of investigative documentation.  

  • Comfort with ambiguity; passion for building new initiatives; experience in using metrics to find root causes; and an empathetic and collaborative style of leadership.  

  • Technically proficient in MS Office Suite systems  

  • Experience gathering, researching, analyzing, and resolving complex employee relations issues.  

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills, and active listening skills 

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.  

  • Training and/or on the job experience in employee relations/complaint or investigations  

  • Experience in providing advice and support to senior executives.  

  • Able to conduct interviews and other virtual meetings in different North America time zones.  

  • Able to travel as needed; planned and in some cases, with minimal notice.
