The Head of North America (NA) Communications is a strategic communications leader responsible for creating an integrated internal and external communications strategy for JELD-WEN’s North America business. Reporting to the VP, Global Communications with a dotted line to the SVP and General Manager of North America, this leader will develop and execute an executive communications strategy, support PR plans that drive the business and ensure all NA employees are informed on regional-specific initiatives. This leader will work closely with the North America leadership team and the Global Corporate Communications team to develop and highlight stories that the company can promote globally internally and externally.   

 

This leader will work with NA executive leaders on their internal communication needs, ensuring consistent message alignment across the global organization. He/she will need to be a creative storyteller and drive employee advocacy of the brand using both traditional and innovative approaches. This role will require a candidate that can build communications strategies and work cross functionally to deliver quality execution. 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Delivers an integrated employee communications strategy that builds employees’ understanding of the business and their role in future growth, while maintaining a strong connection to the JELD-WEN culture and values 
  • Creates internal communications guidelines, governance models and creates a unified voice across North America employee communications 
  • Manages and executes communications strategy for SVP and General Manager of NA, both internally and via social media/thought leadership 
  • Partners with the global and regional communication teams to drive a consistent narrative both internally and externally 
  • Partners closely with senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders, acting as a trusted strategic communication advisor, and proactively supports their communication needs 
  • Directs and prioritizes internal communications content creation and maintains a cadence of messaging from various channels – from videos to face-to-face to written, etc. 
  • Owns, leads, and drives improvement across communication tools and internal events including but not limited to, the company’s intranet, internal social media platform, town halls, manager toolkits and the annual global leadership conference 
  • Leads and grows the internal communications team, continuing to scale its impact across the company while supporting everyone’s growth and development 
  • Supports internal communications on financial milestones or productivity initiatives that impact North America 
  • Partners closely with corporate public relations and marketing to amplify any content externally 
  • Works with HR to support employee value proposition strategy and brand efforts  
  • Drives measurable, data-driven results while creating and implementing unique, creative, and highly impactful initiatives focused on internal audiences 
  • Stays current with latest trends in internal communication channels and digital media, and makes recommendations for further development 
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned 

 

Desired Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in progressive responsibility in internal or employee communications 
  • At least 3 years of people management experience, including management of outside agencies or contractors 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written (email and formal documents) and verbal (meetings and presentations) 
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen; experience in executive communications. 
  • Innovative storytelling capabilities and fluency in multiple content types – editorial, social, digital, etc.
