As a valued member of the Global JELD-WEN Excellence Model (JEM) team, the Director, Global JEM will be the primary coach responsible for working with leadership teams for the development and implementation of lean strategies, tactics, practices and policies driving the sustainable lean transformation for the end to end value streams and the entire business operation. Included in this role is the oversight and management of JELD-WEN’s operating model through the deployment and capability maturation of the lean business operating system, as well as the development of OpEx capability in the culture, leadership and people side of the business.


This position reports to the VP, Global JEM Transformation.



Principle Duties and Responsibilities


  • Leads and coaches sites on lean tools and techniques including standard work, 3P, kanban, kaizen, value stream mapping, visual management, pull systems, mistake proofing, TPM, 5S and cellular manufacturing
  • Assists leadership teams in setting and measurement of actual performance against productivity standards
  • Conducts workshops and provides sensei support to others in connection with Kaizen events
  • Develops, measures and reports on all required strategy deployment, OpEx, related financial and other performance metrics
  • Conducting JELD-WEN problem solving techniques and exercises to root cause problems and move to workable solutions
  • Ensure project/change initiatives meet business objectives on time and on budget by increasing employee adoption and usage. This includes focusing on the people side of change, including changes to business processes, systems and technology, job roles and organization structures
  • Effectively coach and build support for the corporate requirements and facilitates integrated JET principles through JEM for adoption that delivers both the needed results and the growth in capability (skills and culture) for sustaining continuous improvement
  • Lead JEM projects/Kaizen events for improvement results that can be leveraged globally across sites, functions, and product lines specific to process and user adoption
  • Collaborate and execute communication plans to support the rollout and education on continuous improvements and best practices across plants and functions   
  • Provide progress reporting on improvements and track results to strategic plans and KPI’s
  • Be proficient in guiding root-cause analysis (A3 Problem Solving). Lead or coach focused improvement activities and teams to improve results including safety, quality, delivery, cost and inventory
  • Work across business practices to remove barriers and streamline processes by understanding internal and external customer requirements





  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Engineering, or equivalent education and experience as determined by management
  • At least 10 years’ experience leading Lean Transformations, educating others on Lean principles and deployment across manufacturing and transactional processes
  • Have lead 100+ Rapid Improvement/Kaizen events delivering breakthrough levels of improvement
  • Hands on experience using modern Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement methods (LEAN, TPS, Kanban, TPM, Line Balancing, standard work, A3, 5S, Six Sigma etc.)
  • Familiar with lean management systems
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend and implement strategies and programs that address company objectives
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills up and down the organizational hierarchy to include corporate offices
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with direct reports and influence on those with whom there is not a reporting relationship
  • Excellent leadership skills particularly selling, influencing, coaching and teaching capabilities
  • Extensive Gemba based continuous improvement, strong proficiency in lean tools/techniques required
  • Ability to assign priorities in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Ability to interpret manufacturing schematics and blueprints
  • Able to mentor and facilitate lean culture change in an environment with varying levels of acceptance
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict effectively, manage change and problem solve
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and applicable JELD-WEN software applications
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel as JELD-WEN is a global company. (50-75%)
