JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Cost Engineer to join our growing team. 

 

THE ROLE

As a valued member of the critical Engineering team, the Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) Engineer will lead the management of cost savings activities throughout material changes and substitutions. This person will establish and implement projects and prioritization for continued cost reduction and value improvement and also responsible for leading all testing and needed approvals within the direct material changes, delivering the best value to JELD-WEN.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team that is shaping global engineering and procurement policies and strategy across JELD-WEN. The incumbent will take ownership of a growing list of cost saving VAVE opportunities and deliver on agreed upon KPIs.  This role will support both the Global Procurement team as well as the Engineering team. Our global procurement and Engineering team sources commodities from suppliers including;

  • Logs & Lumber

  • Door & Window Hardware
  • Molding & Millwork
  • Packaging

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for delivering annualized cost savings through VAVE and other product cost optimization initiatives
  • Develop and implement project plan to deliver the most benefit with the least cost to the organization by sorting and prioritizing high value projects for testing and approval.
  • Drive value by implementing “Cost-Out Ideation” sessions, product teardowns, supplier visits, and on-site JELD-WEN manufacturing reviews.
  • Manage the total lifecycle of testing and approval of key projects within the Engineering function, including but not limited to, PPAP approvals, Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), and other required steps in the approval process.
  • Responsible for cost performance and rating based on Key Performance Metrics (KPI).
  • Find and develop new parts, materials, or part designs to drive improved costs, in accordance with JELD-WEN supplier guidelines.
  • Conduct detailed reporting on VAVE activities and savings results.
  • Where needed, develop with the Engineering team new testing plans or outside laboratory resources to expedite the timeline to implement new cost savings opportunities.
  • Serve as the SME for VAVE projects in process and liaison between the Engineering team and Procurement team.
  • Lead the collection of test samples (control and new) to ensure correct testing results are easily and reliably conducted.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Foundational knowledge and acumen in Engineering
  • Professional knowledge to support, advise and deliver on the strategy underpinning cost saving efforts and deliver on key KPIs
  • Project management skills including excellent planning, time management, decision making and organization skills
  • Intermediate Software skillset to include M/S Powerpoint, Excel and Power Bi
  • Skilled in building effective working relationships with cross functional teams and suppliers by taking a customer-focused approach
  • Exemplary ability to analyze, evaluate and report information and data to inform management decisions and track outcomes
  • Self-motivated and results oriented, with a bias to action
  • Commitment to own professional development

 

Education and Experience

  • An expectation of 5+ years of advanced education and work experience or equivalent depth of experience in an engineering role within a high volume manufacturing business is required
  • A strong background in engineering with the ability to understand complex material designs and problem solving to aggressively drive value
  • Demonstrable experience of Value Analysis/Value Engineering processes
