Summary: The JELD-WEN Excellence Model (JEM) is a culture, a system and a tool kit. The lean manufacturing tools and process improvement techniques are proven in achieving operational excellence on a worldwide scale.  Under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager, the JEM Coordinator will lead the plant’s CI initiatives designed to eliminate waste and improve performance in Safety, Quality, Product Delivery, Cost and Inventory. This position will provide Safety guidance and act as a resource to the plant.



The JEM Coordinator provides process improvement support with a goal of delivering value.  This position will assist, lead, plan, and coordinate continuous improvement activities. The JEM Coordinator will work with Group Managers to reduce organizational barriers and improve flow of operations, improve business results and operational objectives. The JEM Coordinator will:

  • Provide support with reporting and publishing KPI’s
  • Take ownership of assigned change initiatives throughout project delivery
  • Work with other team members and value streams to devise new support materials revised processes, practices, to include training, reporting, and systems enhancements
  • Set up standard work on best practices and train resources when necessary
  • Train and mentor other associates on lean concepts throughout the organization
  • Assist with departmental improvements related continuous improvement

This position is classed with office staff but 80 - 90% of the role’s time will be spent on the floor assisting with projects and process improvement efforts.  From time to time, this role may require off-shift support.  This is an important role in the plant’s day to day operations. The person working in this role will be expected to take on tasks with enthusiasm and the ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time.



  • Hands on experience using modern Continuous Improvement methods (LEAN, TPS, SQDCI, etc.).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process improvement techniques, preferably in the door industry.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and presentation skills.   
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thought processes to develop, recommend and implement strategies and programs that address plant and corporate objectives.  
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with direct reports and influence on those with whom there is not a reporting relationship.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict effectively and problem solve.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and applicable JELD-WEN software applications.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
